What does a clinical nutritionist do?
Before booking in a consult, you might be wondering what a clinical nutritionist actually does, and how I can support you on your health journey…
As a clinical nutritionist, I take a holistic approach to your health. This means I look at EVERYTHING. We will go beyond your presenting complaints and consider how your lifestyle, diet and environmental exposures could be contributing to your clinical presentation. We also make connections between different systems and how symptoms may be exacerbating each other (for example, we can look at how your state of mind is impacting your gut). This is why our initial consult goes for so long! I truly want to understand you as an individual and what is going on internally before giving my tailored prescription. While each patient we see may exhibit similar symptoms, the conditions and underlying pathology driving these will often be different. This is why it is so important for us to take a detailed case history and for you to be completely open and honest with us (we are here to help you, not to judge!).
As a holistic practitioner, the aim is to treat the person NOT the condition. All dietary, lifestyle and supplement prescriptions will support you as an individual and work with your body to achieve optimal health. We work alongside other health professionals (specialists, GPs) and the treatments they have prescribed you.
It is important for you to have an open mind during the consult - some questions may seem irrelevant but I promise that they help me develop a strong understanding of what is going on and provide you with the best, evidence-based treatment possible.
